symptom

Grace connections show up after applying support pack.

Error:  POLICY MANAGER - (5.00-014): Connection xx is using a 'grace' connection to Server _______ because no licenses were installed or available.  Install a Connection License. (CN=Name.OU=Name.O=Name)

cause

The problem is in the Policy Manager.  When a connection gets into a state where it is using a grace license (for whatever reason), and the connection then goes away (either from logging out or from having been cleared from the connection table), then Policy Manager continues to attempt to get a license for the object that had the connection. This process will repeat every 5 minutes or until another object (user) is assigned to the same connection slot by the OS, in which case Policy Manager can recover. Restarting the server may also make this go away, but does not always work.

fix

This has been addressed with NLSLSP5A.EXE which has been included in the support packs NW4SP9.EXE, NW5SP6A.EXE, and NW51SP2A.EXE.  They can be downloaded from the Patches and Files section of the Novell Support Connection website.

Apply the patch, delete and reinstall the licenses.
