1. Overview

Scorpion converts NetWare Traditional volumes to NSS volumes and NSS
volumes to Traditional volumes. Very fast, efficient and a superb
replacement for Novell's VCU utility. Supports Traditional to
Traditional and NSS to NSS volume copies. Works while the volume is
mounted. All characteristics of the volume are preserved during the
volume copy including name spaces, trustees, directory restrictions,
permissions, etc. Supports NetWare 4.x, 5.x and 6.x. Future versions
will include server-to-server consolidation and in-place conversion
   from Traditional to NSS formats.

The following versions of Novell NetWare are supported:

     - Novell NetWare 4.10, 4.11 and 4.20
     - Novell NetWare 5.0, 5.1 and Small Business Suite 5.1
     - Novell NetWare 6.0
     - Novell NetWare 6.5

   Video Monitors

     - Scorpion does not support monochrome monitors. Color VGA mode
is required for both the video adapter and the monitor.

2. Installation and Removal.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   Installation for NetWare:

This software is packaged as a zip file. Create a temporary directory on
your system and unzip the files. This software does not require an
installation before use. However, there are three supported installation
    methods:

    1) Installation using INSTALL.NLM (NW 4) or NWCONFIG.NLM (NW 5 & 6).
Copy the files either to a floppy diskette or to a temporary
directory on your server. Using INSTALL.NLM or NWCONFIG.NLM select
"Product Options". Then select "Install a product not listed".

    2) Create the directory SYS:/STORMGR. Copy the files to the SYS:/STORMGR
directory on your server. The software can also be copied to any
       directory on your server.

    3) Installation using PINSTALL.NLM. From the server console type:
"load a:pinstall.nlm" if the files are on a floppy diskette, or
"load <path>/pinstall.nlm" if the files are on a directory on the
       server.

The default installation directory is SYS:/SCORPION.

To execute the software type: "load sys:/scorpion/scorpion" at the server
  console.

See the command line options section below.

  To remove the software, use INSTALL.NLM (NW 4) or NWCONFIG.NLM (NW 5 & 6).
Select "Product Options". Then select "View/Configure/Remove installed
products". Then select SCORPION and press delete.

3. What's New in Release 1.03 (July-02-2005)

This section has been moved to the file history.txt

==============================================================================

4. Known Issues

There are no known bugs in the software except for those listed in
the What's New section for this product version.

This version does have the following limitations (by design):

     - The software supports a maximum of 64 logical disk drives per server.
Note that a RAID-5 array appears as one logical disk drive to NetWare.

     - The software supports a maximum of 256 NetWare partitions per server.

==============================================================================

5. Command Line Options

This version supports a number of command line options that can be used to
modify the behavior of the software.

Command Syntax:
	scorpion [options]

The following are valid command line options:

    -help

Display the help screen. All other options will be ignored.

    -logfile=filename

This option creates a file on either a NetWare volume or a file
located on the DOS partition to store status and error information
        from Scorpion.

    -nwio

The software supports using either the older NetWare NWIO (DSK) I/O
subsystem interface and the newer NWPA (HAM) interface. This command
line option specifies to use the older NWIO (DSK) interface.

Note: This option is not available on NetWare 5.x servers.

    -nwpa

The software supports using either the older NetWare NWIO (DSK) I/O
subsystem interface and the newer NWPA (HAM) interface. This command
line option specifies to use the newer NWPA (HAM) interface.

Note: This option is not available on NetWare 3.x servers unless the
NWPA update package has been installed. This is the only interface
	available for NetWare 5.x servers.

6. Software Updates

Scorpion supports updating itself over the Internet. The update
feature will connect to our web server and retrieve a file that lists
the latest files. No information about your server or software is sent
to our web server. We use the HTTP "GET" command for all software
    downloads.

An error message will sometimes occur about not being able to resolve
the address www.portlocksoftware.com. This is fixed by loading the
Novell NLM netdb.nlm which provides the DNS name resolution that
Scorpion needs. As a fallback we have hard coded the IP address
of our web server into Scorpion.

7. Reporting problems to us.

Portlock Software is very interested in any comments regarding
Scorpion. Many features in the current product are the result
of customers letting us know what they need.

When reporting a problem to us, use the command line option -logfile
to help us identify the problem.

   scorpion -logfile=filename
