As such, no warranties or guarantees are provided. Use at your own risk. These programs are not to be sold. All titles mentioned hereafter are trademarks of their respective owners. OK, now to the good stuff. 2 utilities are provided: PEG2EUD.EXE, which converts emailboxes from Pegasus to Eudora, and EUD2PEG.EXE, which converts emailboxes from Eudora to Pegasus. These were written and tested using Pegasus Mail for Windows 2.42a, Pegasus Mail for DOS 3.22, and Eudora Pro 2.2. Since Pegasus Mail is commonly used on Novell Netware networks, both PEG2EUD and EUD2PEG are also Netware-aware, and are made to integrate into current Netware setups, including Netware 4.x/NDS servers. Both utilities are DOS command line utilities. Their purpose is to convert an emailbox of a certain type in one directory, and convert it to another type in another directory. -------------------------------------------------- First thing to do: Compact/Compress your mailboxes -------------------------------------------------- After you delete messages from mailboxes, the messages still remain in the mailbox files - it's just that the mailbox indexes don't reference those deleted messages any more. If you don't compress mailboxes, then deleted messages will appear in your converted mailboxes. Pegasus: Select File, Mail Folders. Highlight each mailbox that you wish to convert, then select Folders, Compress Folder. Eudora: In the lower left corner of the mailbox window is a status button which contains 3 numbers separated by slashes, indicating the number of messages, size in KB of all messages, and size in KB of deleted messages. Using the Mailbox menu, open each mailbox that you wish to convert and press this button to compact the mailbox. If the text on the button is grayed, then the mailbox is already compacted. -------------------------------------------- Using Pegasus to Eudora conversion - PEG2EUD -------------------------------------------- Usage: PEG2EUD [S=ServerName] [P=d:\path] [E=d:\path] [AUTO] S=ServerName Netware File Server where Pegasus info is stored P=d:\path Location of current Pegasus mailbox directory E=d:\path Location of new Eudora mailbox directory AUTO Turn off request for confirmation If you are using Pegasus Mail with Novell Netware, then you should use the S=ServerName option. ServerName refers to the Netware server which is currently handling Pegasus Mail. PEG2EUD will locate the emailbox correctly, referring to the currently logged in user, whether it is located in a SYS:MAIL\xxxxxxx directory, or even if you have changed the default mailbox location. If you are using Pegasus Mail in standalone or POP mode, then use the P=d:\path option to denote the current Pegasus Mailbox directory. The S=ServerName and P=d:\path options should not be used together. If neither the S= nor the P= options are specified, then the current directory is assumed to be the Pegasus mailbox location. The E=d:\path option refers to the new Eudora mailbox location. This location can be specified, for example, in the Eudora properties in Windows Program Manager or Explorer. For the command line, specify: X:\eudora\eudora.exe d:\path where d:\path is the same directory you specified using PEG2EUD. If the E= option is not specified, then a new subdirectory EUDORA of the current directory will be the new Eudora mailbox location. ---------------------------- What is converted by PEG2EUD ---------------------------- Mail Folders: Pegasus mail folders are converted to Eudora mailboxes with the same name. By default, Eudora uses mailboxes called In, Out, and Trash for standard operation, so if your Pegasus mail folders are named any of these, you should rename them to something else before converting. These mailboxes will be available in Eudora on the Mailbox menu, and Eudora will automatically re-index a mailbox when you open its window for the first time. Message statuses (Sent, Replied, Forwarded, etc.) are not converted. Address Books: Pegasus address books are converted into Eudora nicknames. All information except for the email address is placed into the Notes section of nicknames. Distribution Lists: Pegasus distrbution lists are also converted into Eudora nicknames. Signatures: Pegasus' Internet signature (set 1) is converted into the Eudora signature. Pegasus' Local signature (set 1) is converted into the Eudora alternate signature. INI File: If EUDORA.INI does not exist in the destination directory, some of the relevant setup information is copied from PMAIL.INI into EUDORA.INI. If EUDORA.INI already exists, it will not be modified. -------------------------------------------- Using Eudora to Pegasus conversion - EUD2PEG -------------------------------------------- Usage: EUD2PEG [E=d:\path] [S=ServerName] [P=d:\path] [AUTO] E=d:\path Location of current Eudora mailbox directory S=ServerName Netware File Server where Pegasus info is stored P=d:\path Location of new Pegasus mailbox directory AUTO Turn off request for confirmation The E=d:\path option refers to the current Eudora mailbox location. These mail folders will be available in Pegasus on the File, Mail folders menu. When opening a newly converted mail folder, Pegasus for Windows 2.42 will automatically offer to re-index it for you. Earlier versions may not, and may crash as a result. In this case you must initiate the indexing yourself. While the Folders window is open, Choose the Folders, Reindex folder menu. Message statuses (Sent, Replied, Forwarded, etc.) are not converted. Nicknames: Nicknames which contain multiple recipients are converted into Pegasus distribution lists. Nicknames which contain single recipients are converted into a text file which you can import into a Pegasus address book. To import the text file into a Pegasus address book, select the menu Addresses, Address books and select New to create a new address book. Open the new address book. Then choose the menu Addressbook, Import from text file and select the .TXT file which was created in the new Pegasus mailbox directory. Signatures: Eudora's signature is converted into the Pegasus' Internet signature (set 1). Eudora alternate signature is converted into the Pegasus' Local signature (set 1). INI File: It is necessary for Pegasus to create its own PMAIL.INI from scratch when it starts up for the first time. Therefore EUDORA.INI is NOT converted. ------------------------- About A.N.D.
