Pegasus Mail and Linux


In recent months, we have received an increasingly large number of requests
to port Pegasus Mail to the X Window System running on Linux - around five
requests each day, between David and myself. Personally, I'm very fond of
Linux, but we have neither the expertise nor the resources necessary to
build and maintain another version of Pegasus Mail (two versions, actually,
if you take into account the Linux libc5/glibc switch currently taking
place). In short, there is no Linux version of Pegasus Mail, nor is one
planned.

Open Source

A question about making the Pegasus Mail source code widely available (a
la Netscape) is usually the followup to the information above. This simply
is not possible - the Pegasus Mail source code is jealously guarded, and
just about everyone who has any very close involvement with the program
(including our translators, who are volunteers, and myself) is asked to
sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. The Open Source option is not a viable
option for us.
