NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: Rename mail directories README FOR: RENMDR.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: NetWare 4.1 NetWare 4.02 NetWare 4.01 ABSTRACT: RENMDIRS.NLM is a tool that will allow users mail directories in SYS:MAIL to be renamed to match their current object ID numbers. This is necessary for bindery login scripts and printcon files to work properly, as well as for other applications that use these mail directories. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES EVERY EFFORT WITHIN ITS MEANS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: One cause of mis-matched object id's and mail directory names is restoring NDS from a backup. SMS aware backup engines such as Sbackup store object names, not ID's. When an NDS restore is done, these users are given new object ID's. At this point, the mis-match is created. Following the NDS restore, the users also no longer have rights to the file system. To get trustee assignments back, the user must now restore the file system, either a full restore (if actual data files need to be restored) or a full restore with the option exclude data streams" option set to YES (this option will restore just the directory structure, no file data). During the restore, the SMS compliant backup will re-map the trustee assignments to match those of the new object ID's. Finally, the RENMDIRS.NLM tool will be used to change the mail directory names (which are currently the OLD object ID) to match the object ID's of the newly restored users. This NLM will use the DET to see what user has rights to each mail directory. When a user is found, that mail directory name is changed to match that users new object ID. SOLUTION: Load the NLM at the server with the following syntax; "LOAD RENMDIRS servername username password" Where: servername is the name of the server to have the mail directories renamed username is a user with rights to the MAIL subdirectory and sub-directories password is that of the username above Example syntax: "load renmdirs fs1 .cn=admin.o=novell novell Self-Extracting File Name: renmdr.exe Files Included Size Date Time ..\ RENMDR.TXT (This file) RENMDIRS.MSG 382 2-7-95 10:44:46 am RENMDIRS.NLM 3377 7-5-95 5:28:56 pm Installation Instructions: The renmdirs.* files may be copied to a:, c:, sys:system or other directory for loading at the server console. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
