ConsoleAlert Server Console Monitor =================================== Version 1.0 NOTE: THE DOWNLOAD FILE HAS A STORED DIRECTORY STRUCTURE AND HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO BE EXTRACTED INTO THREE DIRECTORIES. IF THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED, RERUN PKUNZIP USING THE -D OPTION (FOR EXAMPLE, PKUNZIP -D CONALERTD.ZIP). Introduction ------------ ConsoleAlert provides NetWare System Administrators with the facilities to constantly monitor the server console for important screen messages that may otherwise go unnoticed. Once a message has been detected, ConsoleAlert can then respond by either sending an SNMP alert to a network management console to inform administrators of the particular event. ConsoleAlert can also automatically take action in response to detected messages and execute console commands designed to respond or correct to the particular message that was detected. Installation ------------ A brief summary of the steps involved in installing ConsoleAlert are given below. For more information, please see the manual in the doc directory. 1. The ConsoleAlert NLM must be installed on the target NetWare File Server. It can be installed using the Novell Installation Tool (INSTALL.NLM). It can laos be installed by manually creating the directory SYS:SYSTEM\CONALERT and then copying in the files from SERVER directory. 2. The client side NWAdmin snap-in module can then be installed at the user's 95 or NT workstation. To run this install program, execute the setup.exe program in the CLIENT directory. The install program will perform two steps, it will first copy two DLLs into your SYS:\PUBLIC directory and will then update your registry settings to enable NWAdmin to recognize the new snap-in modules. 3. To enable the SNMP features of ConsoleAlert, the CONALERT.MIB file must be compiled into Novell's ManageWise product on your network management station. As with other SNMP products, the address of your network management station must be included in the SYS:\ETC\TRAPTARG.CFG file. Note, it is perfectly feasible to change the MIB identifier used by ConsoleAlert. However, the MIB identifier used by ConsoleAlert (specified either in the CONALERT.CFG file or in the server or profile object) must match the identifer contained in the MIB file compiled into ManageWise. Documentation ------------- The documentation associated with the product has been placed in the DOC directory in both Envoy run-time format and Adobe Acrobat format. Both documents contain the same information and it is only necessary to retain the version that works best in your environment.
