symptom

ZEN schema won't extend during install - fails on DMWORK.SCH

Can't enable Import Policy in the Server Package

key = NDS$zenServerPackage javax.naming.directory.AttributeModificationException [Root exception is com.novell.service.jncp.NDSException: ccode = -608 (0xfffffda0)]   is seen when trying to enable the Import Policy in a ConsoleOne session that was started with -debug -windowout.

Time sync errors when trying to manually extend the schema with DMWORK.SCH and NDSSCH.EXE

cause

If when you originally applied ZEN schema (from the last version of Zen you used, for example) you had future time, then the creation timestamps on that schema would be in the future.  Now, when you try to apply updates to existing schema, it fails with a Timesync error because the schema time is in the future.  This wouldn't show up in a regular DsRepair/TimeSync check, because it's schema timestamps, not object timestamps.

fix

So, during some off hours, you would want to declare a new schema epoch, which will destroy the schema on all the servers other than the Master of [Root], re-timestamp the Masters schema with the current time, and then distribute that updated schema to the other servers.  To do this:

1. Load DSREPAIR -A | Advanced options | Global schema operations | Declare a new epoch. Caution should be taken with this procedure.

2. After a new epoch has been declared on  schema, turn on the following DSTRACE screens and look for an ALL PROCESSED = YES for schema sync. SET DSTRACE = +SCHEMA, SET DSTRACE = *SSD, SET DSTRACE = *SSA. If the DSTRACE screen shows an ALL PROCESSED = YES then the schema should be able to be extend successfully for ZENworks for Desktops 4.

After this is complete, you should try to extend the schema with the ZENworks install again.
