DESCRIPTION ================================================================= Novell Registry Editor was designed by Novell's GroupWare Support for the GroupWise 5.x end user, to help with issues they might have with GroupWise 5.x. This product was designed to be run in Windows 95 or Windows NT. The main feature in Novell Registry Editor is the Windows registry editing functionality. Novell Registry Editor limits the keys the end user is able to see and modify in their Windows registry database. This helps to avoid accidentally damaging information in the registry, but allows the end user to modify settings when needed. Novell Registry Editor will still give sufficient functionality to allow the end user to safely make any suggested modifications made by their Admin or Novell's GroupWise Support Engineers. ================================================================= 2. FEATURES ================================================================= 2.1 Registry Editor: A Filter file in INI format is used to limit what the end-user can see in Novell Registry Editor. More than one filter file can be created. One file may be for Novell's GroupWare products, another for all Novell 32 bit applications, and another for a different company's software, etc. If multiple filter files (*.nrf) are found in the program directory, a prompt dialog will be displayed to let the user select which filter to use. If only one filter file is found, the prompt dialog will not be displayed. In Windows 95, by default, the registry files (system.dat and user.dat) are automatically backed up when the program is run. The "/nb" startup option on the command line will disable the backup. The automatic backup feature is not available in Windows NT. Microsoft's and Corel's registry data types for strings, DWORDs, WORD, Logical, Binary, and WPWord Strings, are designated as their proper data type. Microsoft's RegEdit.exe represents Corel's data types as binary data types. This makes it harder to modify them in RegEdit.exe. In Novell Registry Editor, you are able to modify Corel's strings, DWORDs, WORDs, and Logical data types. If they are read-only, they will be displayed, but are not editable. If they are Binary or WPWord strings, the are not displayed, nor are they editable. 2.2 Search and Replace: Novell Registry Editor has a powerful search and replace capability for locating information in the Windows registry. For example, if you run applications from the UTH-1 server, and the server name is changed to ORM-1, the search and replace feature will update all the old server references to the new reference. A list of the keys that were replaced can also be saved to a text file. 2.3 Designed Limitations: You cannot edit nor delete binary data (Corel's binary, or Microsoft's binary), nor any values that are read only (Corel's registry data types only). This is similar to Novell's BIF editor. These data types are inserted by an application, and are not meant to be modified by the end-user. You cannot print, export, nor import. All these features are available in RegEdit.exe, and are not something the normal end-user would be concerned with. 2.4 GroupWise 5.x: The GroupWise options allow quick access to important GroupWise information stored in the Windows registry. Information for the 32 bit client, default login parameters, installation type, network client, API related information, etc, can easily be viewed from the menu. The Remove option will quickly remove all GroupWise 5.x related keys from the registry. There is an option to Delete all the files Novell created, and installed with GroupWise. Files not created by Novell, but that were installed by GroupWise 5.x, will not be removed. 2.5 Startup Options: Remove Specific Language: To remove additional languages that are not designated as the default interface language in the registry, add the following startup option to the command line, where xx is the 2 letter Novell language code: /gwl-xx Example: To explicitly remove the German files when the "Tools | GroupWise 5 | Delete 32 bit Client Files" menu option is selected, add: /gwl-de to the command line. Do Not Backup Registry Files: The "/nb" startup option on the command line will disable the automatic backup of the system.dat and user.dat under Windows 95. 2.6 GroupWare Support Center: The GroupWare Support Center utility can be also be launched from within Novell Registry Editor. It helps when troubleshooting the GroupWise 5.x or 4.1 Windows 3.1 clients. It is a 16 bit application. If Novell Registry Editor detects GSC.EXE in the same directory, it will add a menu option under "Tools | GroupWise 5 | 16 bit Client GroupWare Support Center..." to launch the GroupWare Support Center utility. 2.7 NetWare Admin: You can launch the NWAdmn3x.exe that is required to modify GroupWise (5.0-5.1) settings in NDS. This option can be run from any workstation running NetWare Client32. The required GroupWise 5.x settings will be inserted into the existing NWAdmn3x.ini file if they don't exist, or a new ini file will be created with the GroupWise 5 settings. Self-Extracting File Name: NRE12.EXE Files Included Size Date Time ..\ NRE12.TXT (This file) SETUPNRE.EXE 1012243 7-11-97 5:20:00 am Installation Instructions: Run the self-extracting file NRE12.exe.
